Fiscally Responsible Government

As a Council, we’ve been dedicated to reducing the size and cost of government while preserving core city services with the least possible adverse impact on taxpayers. We were the first governmental unit in our area to institute a hiring freeze, we’ve reduced staff by over 8%, and have made tough decisions for cost containment and efficiency while protecting public safety and maintaining the quality of our city’s infrastructure. Now that Naperville has reached build-out, we’re able to assess what our true needs are to provide core services to the community, like police, fire, roads and bridges, and we can plan responsibly to meet those needs within a budget we can afford.

I see the diversity of our Council as its greatest strength, providing a wide spectrum of backgrounds and viewpoints, and I see my role as one of listening to others, challenging their assumptions, and then building consensus around the best solutions. My training and experience in engineering, operations research and law given me the ability to look ahead, recognize potential outcomes, and recommend a course of action that brings about the most positive outcome while avoiding unexpected negative consequences. I also seek to bridge differences, promoting compromise when it will bring about a better outcome for the community as a whole, but remaining steadfast on my core beliefs of small government, fiscal conservatism, and delivery of high-quality services that residents expect from the city.
